Departmental SWOC Analysis

Strength

One of the oldest well established and reputed department in the Shivaji University area.
Well equipped and PG (M. Phil. / Ph.D.) recognized laboratory to carry out research work.
Well equipped PTC laboratory.
Availability of PG recognized teachers and Guides.
Faculty involved in the activities like research, Publications and participation in the seminars, workshops, Symposia, Summer School and Hands on training programme etc.
Meritorious student willingly opt for Botany as a principle subject and occupies the top positions in the merit list of B.Sc. as well as for P.G. admission of Shivaji and other Universities.
Freedom to decision within the department.
Harmony among the teacher, and also in between the student and teachers.
Caring of students for their well beings, even after their departure.
We promote the students for research activity and presentation of their work apart from the syllabus.
We serve for plant identification and authentication through MoU.

Weakness

Inadequate space in laboratory is the major problem corresponding to the increasing students in B.Sc. Part-I and II classes.
Permanent teaching and Non-teaching staff is issue after the latest retirements.

Opportunities

We have better opportunities to start with PG course.
We may be able to develop a certified variety of Chickpea, in collaboration with ICRISAT funded by UGC under one of the research project carried out in the department.
We can generate funds through authentication of plants and consultancy services will be provided through PTC lab to the nurseries.

Challenges

In general, the subject knowledge was a tool for self employment and career advancement of the students.
Since our subject is mainly based upon field activities and excursion we are facing gander issue proper florishment. We are therefore looking for more number of male students to opt for botany as principle subject.
